Boys & Girls Club of Rochester NY, for over 40 years, has worked to improve outcomes for area youth. The organization demonstrated its impact leveraging a partnership, started in 2011, with the local school district, United Way of Greater Rochester, Children's Institute and COMET. A 2012 evaluation determined that students who attend afterschool activities of the club attended school significantly more - on average 7 days more - than students who were not Club members. “Being able to point to this evaluation and tell our funders and our community that we are making a difference is huge,” said Dwayne Mahoney, executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Rochester. “We have always been able to demonstrate the need here in Rochester,” Mahoney continued, “but demonstrating our ability to get results was a different story.”
COMET is an approved vendor partner of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA), used across the nation to track and record data related to members, programs, and outcomes, and provides tracking of attendance, BGCA standard programs and required NYOI reporting. In addition to tracking program and activity attendance, COMET users can assess summer learning loss, track report card grades, and evaluate the progress club members make in their programs.
